Business Ideas

i
As of now i have only point 1 in mind. not identified any sector.
I am not even sure that there is enough market potential and on top of
every thing we have very limited exposure. [ I have been a part of KM
effort at CTS, of that helps ;-) ].
What we can do is to help a company develop KM infra - do every thing
from process definition, knowledge identification, tool identification
and implementation. In a nut shell, kicking off the KM process for any
company. [ i am not sure if that has any market value, it could have
some value because services is a major part of any KM implementation ]
- soch ke bata.....

I am not thinking of any application as of now because its not the
product or technology that will drive KM effort and there are already
hazaar products in the market.

I cannot comment on integration of KM tools but there are a couple of
MS products that do someting similar.

The Mac report does not talk about any thing new. All that is very
standard process, they have just put everything in a nice structure.

The idea of selling the service sounds good but comes down to our Sales skills :).. Let me try and define what we can do -
1) We can be helping mid-size companies (that choice is because bigger companies would mean we would need greater credibility and they would go in for expensive s/w too. And in the case of smaller companies, they wouldn't want to spend money cos their unstructured wouldn't be a concern for them as yet) to effectively establish a KM practice/process. The Key would be in identifying gaps and suggesting processes and methodologies. This sounds comparatively easy but would mean a lot of due diligence and brain storming. So, it definitely is doable in that sense.
Where do I see gaps in this? -Selling Skills -Domain Expertise (It wouldn't be easy to go in and suggest KM measures for any company unless you understand the industry, right?).. More in a little while..

Acha, I was going through the latest business world today and there was an article on outsourced product development. It sounded good for two reasons.. One, you dont have to worry about the product's selling and marketing.. It'll just marketing to the IT product companies (small and medium and in some cases even the large ones) in the US primarily. It is relatively new area.. But then different routes available include:
1) Modular development - bits and pieces, mostly non-core
2) Co-Development - Working together in an offshore-onsite model.
3) Managed Development - More like body shopping
4) Full Fledged Development - The service provider takes complete responsibility for the development
5) BOT Devl - team of the service provider is transferred to client
6) Testing
7) Product Maintenance
8) Product Management

The key would be to get a team in place and bag one contract from abroad..

Just think about it.. and give your ideas..
